Read This

A few days ago I noticed a student who was having a difficult time finding a book to read. “Want me to help you find a book?” I asked. “Yes, please!” she replied. “Nothing looks really great to me.” We were fishing through book baskets, pulling out possibilities, reading the backs of books, when a friend chimed in. “Oh, I know the perfect book for you!” the friend said. And the two were off, in search of the “perfect” book. Before reading was over, she had selected a book and fell into the reading zone.

In our lives, our best recommendations come from those who know us well. Our friends recommend movies, stores, songs, games, and yes, books. Chances are, you share the same interest in literature as someone in our class.

Readers, I would like for you to recommend a book to the class. Think of a book or other piece of literature you love. It can be a poem, magazine, blog, illustrated book or chapter book, or any other well-written piece of literature. Write the title of the book, the author, and a meaningful, specific reason why it is so great. Avoid “nothing” words like funny, great, and cool. If you know of someone specifically who would love the book, go ahead and add their initials.

At the end of the day, I checked in with my student who was busily reading her newly-selected chapter book. “So, you found the perfect book, huh? Looks like a great choice.” She replied, “Yeah, it’s great! My friend recommended it and I even had it listed on my Books I Want to Read list.” I smiled. “Well, that makes it a perfect choice then.” “Yes. Perfect.” Then she fell back into the zone.

A book that I would recommend would have to be The Hank Zipzer Series. I love it because Hank and his friends, always go on an adventure or have a problem that they need to fix. The author of the amazing adventure books is Henry Winkler. I would recommend those books to Sarah. I think she would like those books a lot.

I chose Hard Drive to Short by Matt Christopher , it's a great book for our class because we're all sporty. It also teaches you a lesson to not hide things behind your friends back and don't think you can be cool with one person and leave the rest of your friends and still be friends with them.its a good book for people who like baseball and other sports.

I recommend the book Walk Two Moons by Sharon Creech for people who like books that have a meaning and can mix their emotions. By books that have a meaning I mean books that: touches the reader's heart, really moves the reader to a different perspective, and that mentions something throughout the book that the reader can connect to. This story can really mix readers emotions by going from a: haha that is so funny moment, to a boo hoo that is so sad moment. I really love this book because it kind of leads me somewhere, and then it quickly takes me somewhere else. This book may be boring in the beginning, but keep reading it, you will learn to love it. I know I have. Walk Two Moons really touched my heart, and I hope it will touch yours.

Dear Mrs. Jenkins,
I chose the book The Indian in the Cupboard because it told an amazing story, was very entaining and was a very easy to get into the zone. I think IL would like this book because she likes the type of book and reads the same size and genre and I think she would just fall in love with the text and the small pictures in the book. I also think MM in our class would like the book because she reads the type of books so I think they would love The Indian in the Cupboard.

I recommend Through My Eyes by Tim Tebow. It is a biography about his life. It teaches you to trust God and has a bible verse at the beginning of every chapter that has to do with the chapter.
This book will also teach you to persevere during hard times and Tim Tebow does it a lot too. When Tim Tebow's dog,Otis, got really hurt, Tim Tebow persevered and took him home after the doctor said he might not survive, but after a few weeks resting Otis got to feeling better.

The Picture of Dorian Gray
Oscar Wilde.

First of all, I think that everybody should read this book. This book taught me a lesson to expect the unexpected. I know this book is a classic, and most of you do not like to read these kinds of books, but you should because The Picture of Dorian Gray also helps you improve in your regular life, and reading life. For me to understand this book, I hat to dig very, very deeply to find out this book's theme. In this case, the theme is expect the unexpected. The plot is a man has a portrait painted of himself. Suddenly, the figure in the portrait ages rapidly, and in the end, Dorian Gray stabbs the painting with a dagger, but the picture ends up unharmed, but Dorian Gray dies. I had to really think about this, because I was panicking and thinking to expect the unexpected horrible things in life, but I dug some more and found out to also expect the unexpected good things in life. If I were watching a movie version of this, and I had never read this before, I would be biting my tounge, and sitting at the edge of my seat. SH

I would recommend the Percy Jackson series by Rick Riordan to anyone who likes fantasy and adventure. I would recommend them because Percy goes on many exciting adventures and has to fight many monsters. He also goes on quests for gods that rule the earth. I really like this series because Rick Riordan does a wonderful job of explaining and describing what is happening every moment of the story. Percy also has an interesting personality. I like reading to see how Percy reacts to obstacles that get in his way while he is on a quest. Rick Riordan does a magnificent job of telling me what Percy is doing and feeling, so then I can infer what Percy is thinking. When I finish a book in the series, I want to read the next book really badly, and find out what adventure Percy will go on next. If you like the Hardy Boys, Nancy Drew, or Harry Potter then I think you will definitely like Percy Jackson.

I recommend The Penderwicks. I recommend this book because if you like conflicts that are in books you should read The Penderwicks. The Penderwicks can be very exciting too! It teaches you to not be scared if you want to say something that you think might hurt the other persons feelings, because they had the idea that you do not like. I recommend this book to people who like their book to be exciting, but also have conflicts between characters in their book.

I chose Where the Red Fern Grows because when you finish the book you will learn a great lesson, which is that God has a plan for everything. I also like this amazing story because I love dogs. The story is about a boy who will do anything for two hound dogs. He worked for two years to earn fifty dollars, he also took a 36 mile journey just to get the dogs. He hunted coons with these dogs and was one of the best coon hunters. He went to a big coon hunting contest, and won a lot of money for his family so they could move closer to town. There are many struggles, some are devastating. If you choose to read this book be prepared for one of the saddest books you will ever read.

I would recommend this book because of the great emotions I felt throughout the story, and also because the main character is a girl around a fourth grade age. I have read The Phantom Tollbooth several times. I like it because I learned lots of new words. It is fantasy. I really enjoyed the plot because it was very entertaining. People were going all over the kingdom. It could be too thick, but it will be worth it.

Dear Mrs. Jenkins, I would recommend the Spider Web Chronicles. It is a great story about a boy, Jared, and his brother and sister who found a guide that told them about the things that lived in the house they are staying in. When you read the first book you would not be able to stop reading and you would want to read the whole series. I would not recommend this book to just one person. I would recommend this book to anyone who likes to read. I love how when a problem approaches the siblings they figure it out together.

I can't really choose a book, but there is one series I really love! That series is the Matt Christopher Sports Biography. These books have taught me it is better to be thankful for what you do have then complain of what you don't. Why I said that is because most of the players grew up in poverty! The players had to have some natural talent but most of their success came from hard work and using the little you have to achive your goals.
